Supplies:
-2 yards fabric of your choice (fabric that drapes well is great for this)
-scissors
-pins
-sewing machine & coordinating thread
Step One: Fold your 2 yards of fabric in half lengthwise and cut on the fold. Set aside one half of the fabric.
Taking one half of the fabric, fold in half again lengthwise. The right sides of the fabric should be facing each other. Take this to your sewing machine and stitch the length of the cut edges, leaving the ends open. *You can pin the edges first if this makes you more comfortable.
Step Two: Once your long edge is stitched, turn the fabric right side out. Take your newly sewn tube and lay it flat on the floor, middle seam pointing up and centered.
Step Three: Now that your tube is seam-up on the floor, take one end and bring it all the way up to the other end. We’re going to sew our ends together to create the infinity look of this particular scarf. Pin the ends together with right sides of the fabric facing each other. Don’t be afraid to take your time on this part.
Step Four: Let’s take our pinned edges to the sewing machine. Before we start, keep in mind that we won’t be stitching it all the way closed. You will want to leave a 2″-3″ opening. Slowly start sewing the edges together. As you start nearing your finishing point, you will find that the scarf starts turning into itself. That’s exactly what it’s supposed to do. Once you are 2″-3″ from your starting point, do a little backstitch to secure the seam.
As you can see, the wrong side of the fabric is facing out again. This is precisely what it should look like, so don’t doubt your work! We’re going to reach into the opening and pull the fabric right side out. Keep pulling until the scarf is entirely out.
Step Five: Now blind stitch the opening closed and our scarf is finished!
Once you get the hang of this project, you’ll be whipping out infinity scarves for everyone you know! Ready, set … make a scarf for everyone you know! – Katie
